The Habitat ReStore plays a critical role in supporting this mission by generating revenue through the sale of donated home improvement materials, furniture, appliances, and household goods. The ReStore is also a place where volunteers, donors, shoppers, and community partners connect to make a lasting impact in Knox County.

Position Summary

The ReStore Manager is responsible for the daily operation and overall success of the Habitat ReStore. This position leads staff and volunteers, cultivates donor and community relationships, ensures exceptional customer service, and drives donation procurement and sales performance.

The ideal candidate is an energetic leader who enjoys working with people, developing volunteers, building community partnerships, and creating a positive shopping and donation experience. The ReStore Manager should spend the majority of their time on the sales floor leading by example, coaching team members, engaging customers, and supporting volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Community Engagement

  • Ensure every donor, customer, volunteer, and guest has a positive and welcoming experience.

  • Lead by example in providing exceptional customer service.

  • Ensure customers are greeted, assisted, and thanked for their support.

  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer and donor inquiries.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and inviting shopping environment.

  • Work with Habitat staff to promote the ReStore through social media, email marketing, community events, and outreach opportunities.

Volunteer Leadership & Retention

  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and recognize volunteers.

  • Conduct volunteer orientations and ongoing training.

  • Create a positive, engaging volunteer experience that encourages long-term involvement.

  • Match volunteer skills and interests with meaningful opportunities.

  • Foster a culture of appreciation, teamwork, and mission engagement.

  • Ensure volunteers understand safety procedures and operational expectations.

Donor Relations & Procurement

  • Build and maintain relationships with individual donors, contractors, businesses, realtors, property managers, and community partners.

  • Develop strategies to increase both the quantity and quality of donations.

  • Promote donation opportunities throughout Knox County.

  • Ensure donors receive excellent service and appreciation throughout the donation process.

  • Coordinate donation acceptance and procurement efforts to maximize inventory and revenue.

Retail Operations & Sales

  • Oversee daily store operations from opening to closing.

  • Ensure donations are processed, priced, and displayed in a timely manner.

  • Maintain attractive merchandise displays and a well-stocked sales floor.

  • Review sales trends and inventory data to maximize revenue opportunities.

  • Ensure slow-moving merchandise is marked down according to policy.

  • Ensure all sales transactions are processed accurately.

  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of purchased merchandise and supplies.

  • Keep exterior areas clean, safe, and free of debris and abandoned carts.

Staff Leadership & Administration

  • Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate ReStore staff and volunteers.

  • Develop team members to assume leadership responsibilities when needed.

  • Create and post work schedules in a timely manner.

  • Ensure payroll and required reporting are completed accurately and on time.

  • Reconcile cash registers and deposits according to policy.

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to manage expenses and achieve revenue goals.

  • Ensure all sales, donation, volunteer, and operational records are maintained accurately.

Safety & Facility Management

  • Maintain a safe environment for customers, volunteers, and staff.

  • Ensure compliance with Habitat policies and procedures.

  • Monitor store cleanliness and organization standards.

  • Address maintenance and facility concerns promptly.

Qualifications

  • Previous retail management, nonprofit, volunteer management, or customer service leadership experience preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.

  • Experience leading teams, volunteers, or community groups.

  • Ability to motivate and engage diverse groups of people.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and point-of-sale systems.

  • Commitment to Habitat for Humanity's mission and values.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds with assistance.

  • Ability to operate a cash register and other retail equipment.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and Saturdays as needed.
